Introduction

NISRA launched an initial consultation that was an important part of the 2011 Census development process.  Users were invited to complete a questionnaire seeking views on the 2011 Census question content, and also covering issues such as the general provision of demographic statistics and the population base & statistical framework for the 2011 Census.

The original 2011 Census consultation questionnaire can be viewed at the Consultation Questionnaire link below.

The responses to the consultation exercise were considered with those that emerged across the rest of the UK as a result of similar consultation exercises conducted by the Office for National Statistics and the General Register Office for Scotland .

Proposals for the 2007 Census Test questionnaire emerged from this work and were presented publicly at three Census information days, which took place at the following venues:

Final decisions in respect of the 2011 questionnaire are being decided through the legislative process. Proposals for the content of the 2011 questionnaire and arrangements for the 2011 Census are outlined in the Census Proposals Document.

The 2007 Census Test took place on 13 May 2007 in five areas of Northern Ireland, on the basis of their different socio-economic characteristics and their difficulty of enumeration.

2011 Census User Information Seminar

The Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) organised a Census user information seminar to support the development of the 2011 Census questionnaire. The seminar was held in Lisburn on 20 June 2007.

The purpose of the information seminar was to inform users of what the NI Census Office currently understands to be the main topic and question priorities for the NI 2011 Census questionnaire and to provide users with the opportunity to consider the priorities presented and contribute their views.

Please view the following Information Paper for further information. 2011 Census Questionnaire: User Priorities For Topics and Questions.
